Every successful ad has one thing in common: a killer hook.
It’s that first line of copy — that 1 second of video — that makes people pause, feel something, and want to know more.
Here are 3 hook formats we use when building high-converting creatives for our clients — and how you can swipe them too.
This type of hook sparks curiosity and imagination. It paints a quick picture of what could be possible for your audience.
Example:
“What if you could launch a €50K campaign without ever opening Canva?”
When to use it:
Great for founders, SaaS, or offers that promise transformation.
This one hits your audience where it hurts (in a good way). You’re calling out their current frustration — and promising relief.
Example:
“Tired of paying for ads that ‘look amazing’ but don’t convert?”
When to use it:
Perfect for warm audiences, retargeting, or when you want immediate emotional resonance.
A bold claim or surprise stat. These hooks make people say, “Wait, what?”
Example:
“This boring-looking ad made €34,798 in 21 days. Here’s why.”
When to use it:
Ideal for cold traffic, ad testing, or when you want to disrupt the scroll with numbers + novelty.
The hook is the first thing you should test when an ad underperforms. Not the design. Not the audience.
Run A/B tests with 2-3 hook variations and keep everything else the same — your winning angle will rise fast.
Grab your best-performing ad, rewrite the first line using one of these 3 formats — and run a test.
Or better yet…
